Cineflix International Sells 69-Hour Factual Package to RTI-Mediaset

Cineflix International has sold a package of factual content totalling some 69 hours to Mediaset, Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster, which will air the programming on factual slots on Italia 1 and the newly launched Mediaset Italia 2, beginning this month, it was announced today by Paul Heaney, President and Managing Director of Cineflix International.
The landmark deal — Cineflix International’s largest ever with an Italian broadcaster — builds on a successful relationship with Mediaset stretching back to 2006, when the two companies first entered into a two-year output deal.
Titles covered by the agreement include factual series Weird Or What? with William Shatner (20 x 60 mins), which follows the world-famous actor as he searches for scientific explanations to unexplained mysteries and phenomena; Paradise Lost (8 x 60 mins), which tells the bone-chilling tales of travels gone wrong; Murder She Solved: True Crime (8 x 60 mins), which pays homage to the female law-enforcement officers who hunt down killers; and Cooler Facts (6 x 30 mins/38 x 3 mins), a fast-paced journey into the science behind our natural world.
Following the success of the first two seasons of Urban Legends, the third season of the extreme trivia show is also headed for Italy under the deal. The programme, which recreates far-fetched stories of city life before challenging the audience to guess which are fact and which are fiction, has sold well around the world, including to NBCUniversal-owned SyFy in the US.
The package also includes season one of Princess, which sees teen divas transformed into responsible young adults; and all three seasons of Bulging Brides (39 x 30 mins), which chronicles the desperate attempts of brides to slim down for their big day.
Daniela Bagliani, Factual Acquisitions and Co-productions Manager for RTI Mediaset Group, said: “We are always hunting down new talents in the factual world to feed our channels with new ideas and new ways of approaching the documentary subject. Long ago, when its catalogue was launched on the market, we decided that Cineflix was a company we could trust completely in this respect. The content it offered, and continues to offer, is both edgy and quality-oriented and thus really suits our channels’ needs — especially those of Italia 1, which is always looking for new challenges to satisfy the ever-changing taste of its audience. Italia 1 and Cineflix have something in common: they are not only up-to-date, but they also create new ways of enjoying TV viewing.”
The deal was brokered by Sabrina Ayala, Cineflix International’s Vice-President of Sales and Acquisitions for Latin America, Iberia and Italy. Ayala said: “Mediaset’s decision to extend our relationship with this significant volume deal is a huge vote of confidence in the quality and relevance of our programming to its audiences. It’s such a pleasure to be working with one of the most dynamic broadcasters in Italy, and we look forward to an ever brighter future together.”
