Sky HD Commissions East Coast Trains from Cineflix Productions

Sky 1 HD announces today the commissioning of East Coast Trains (working title), a 10 x 60’ documentary series to be made by Cineflix Productions.  Greenlit by Chris Wilson, Commissioning Editor, Factual and Features, Sky, the programme will go beyond the public facing ticket barriers, buffet cars and timetables into the inner workings of one of the UK’s leading passenger train operators.

East Coast Trains will take viewers on a remarkable journey inside one of the biggest and most complex transport networks in Britain with nine hundred and seventy-six services each week covering routes totalling nine hundred and thirty-six miles. Over the winter and spring of 2013, filming will capture all areas of the business following regular characters, across a wide variety of departments that work twenty-four hours a day to keep everything on track.  In addition the series will follow the stories of some of the 50,000 passengers who are brought together on the East Coast line every single day.

East Coast Trains  will be produced by Cineflix Productions and will be exec produced by Camilla Lewis and Rob Carey for Cineflix Productions and Chris Wilson for Sky.  The series will air on Sky 1 HD next autumn. By 2014, Sky expects to invest £600 million a year in British programmes across its portfolio of channels.  This commitment follows the success of home-grown content such as entertainment hits Got to Dance, An Idiot Abroad and A League of Their Own, dramas such as Strike Back and Mad Dogs, comedies such as Trollied, The Cafe and Spy, for which its star Darren Boyd received both a BAFTA® Award and British Comedy Award, and factual shows such as Ross Kemp Extreme World and the BAFTA-winning documentary Flying Monster 3D.
