Cineflix Media Restructures to Capitalize on Growth in the US and UK Markets
Leading international television producer and distributor Cineflix Media Inc. announced today that it is restructuring its unscripted operations to capitalize on growth in the US and UK markets, and create efficiencies by reducing overheads.
Cineflix Media co-founder and co-CEO Glen Salzman said: “Cineflix has expanded rapidly in size over the last few years - building up a successful rights business, launching our joint venture Buccaneer Media in the UK, and last year entering into a partnership with Participant Media, who took an equity stake in the Company. We are now at a more mature stage and, following an in-depth evaluation of our operations and our broadcasting client requirements, we’ve taken necessary steps to streamline our operations to ensure long-term stability.”
“While producing Canadian content remains core to our business, the majority of our unscripted commissions are now led by US and UK broadcasters and generate stronger international interest, which adds greater long-term value to our IP rights. The organizational changes we are announcing today will bolster our creative teams in the US and UK with added support to do what they do best: create high quality, brand-defining programs for broadcasters worldwide,” Mr. Salzman added.
Going forward, Glen Salzman will oversee all production financing and business development, while co-founder and co-CEO Katherine Buck will lead strategic planning as well as executive and creative team management. Andrew Akman, COO, will continue to oversee operations.
Jodi Flynn will be heading unscripted development and programming for the US and Canada. Charles Tremayne will be overseeing all unscripted production in the US and Canada. Lisa Levenson will continue to develop and produce unscripted programming based out of Los Angeles. Production activities will be shared between Los Angeles, New York and Toronto. The Company’s current slate of more than 20 series for US networks including History, Investigation Discovery, HGTV and Food Network includes high rating, long-running successes American Pickers, Mayday, Property Brothers and exciting new projects such as Surviving Evil.
UK unscripted development and production will be led by Creative Director Rob Carey and Managing Director Camilla Lewis, who have successfully grown the business with the ratings hits Trauma Doctors and Salvage Hunters, new commissions like All Aboard: East Coast Trains and returning series Claimed and Shamed and Pet School for broadcasters including the BBC, Sky1, Channel 4, Channel 5, Discovery and NGCI.
Chris Bonney, CEO of Rights, will continue to oversee the exploitation of Cineflix’s growing intellectual property on all platforms worldwide.
Meanwhile, Simon Lloyd, CEO of Cineflix Productions, has announced his intention to leave Cineflix to start his own production company in partnership with Joe Houlihan, currently EVP of Programming. Both have agreed to stay with Cineflix until the end of the year to facilitate the organizational restructuring.
Simon Lloyd said: “I have had an amazing time at Cineflix, where we created a uniquely successful company. With Glen and Katherine’s unwavering support I have been fortunate enough to have assembled and worked with a team of supremely talented individuals. Together, we collaborated with our broadcast partners to create a wide ranging and impressive slate of shows whose quality will stand the test of time, while always maintaining a close knit feeling of family and camaraderie. But after eight years, it’s time for me to move on with Joe to run our own company. We relish the challenges that await us at one of the most exciting times in the evolution of TV and digital media.”
“We are grateful to Simon and Joe for their fantastic contribution to growing Cineflix, and look forward to supporting their exciting new venture and partnering with them in the future,” Glen Salzman and Katherine Buck said. “We could not be happier for them striking out on their own and we wish them great success.”
“The operating structure we’re putting in place will strengthen Cineflix’s position in the market and ensure it remains a highly competitive, idea driven and responsive media company,” Ms. Buck added.
