Joy happens here.
Filmed at an idyllic lakeside camp in Alberta, Canada, Summer Qamp is a poignant documentary that chronicles the brave stories of queer youth at an inclusive haven like no other. Camp fYrefly offers all the traditional joys of summer camp—only served up with compassion, community, and a side order of fierce. It’s a safe, affirming space where LGBTQ+ youth are encouraged to choose their own pronouns, wear whatever they want, and explore and express their authentic selves.
The film zooms in on a handful of campers, revealing a heartwarming peek into their lives at home, and then follows their journey at camp amid bonfires, healing circles, and unforgettable rites of passage. From pre-camp jitters and new friendships to life-changing adventures in the great outdoors, Summer Qamp captures this magical place where gender-fluid youth can let down their guard, open up, and thrive.
