Program Details

Beneath the surface lies an ocean of trouble.

The beautiful English seaside town of Whitstable is home to Pearl Nolan (Kerry Godliman) who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood delicacies in her restaurant and solving the crimes, debauchery, and murder regularly brought in by the tide…the British seaside holiday will never be the same again.

Pearl is chef-proprietor of the eponymous Whitstable Pearl restaurant which she runs alongside her son, Charlie, waitress, Ruby, and, in spite of, her mother Dolly. She is also the owner of a newly formed detective agency, finally putting her distant police-training to good use. Pearl’s frustrations with the police’s own investigations bring her into conflict with DCI Mike McGuire recently down from London who she finds infuriating, yet somehow, she can’t seem to stay away from him…

Julie Wassmer’s much-loved novels are brought to the screen for the first time by iconic Norwegian filmmaker Øystein Karlsen (Exit, Dag, Lilyhammer) and the award-winning producers of hit detective series Marcella. Alongside Kerry Godliman (Derek, After Life), the cosy crime series stars Howard Charles (The Three Musketeers, Alex Rider), Frances Barber (Doctor Who, Silk), Robert Webb (Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look), Sophia Del Pizzo (Shelley, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Isobelle Molloy (Maleficent, EastEnders), and Rohan Nedd (Doctor Who, Blue Story).
